What do we see in the Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story trailer?

Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story teaser trailer takes us into Lizzie Borden’s life and events that led to the infamous murders. Borden comes from a wealthy New England family and was a Sunday School teacher. The footage suggests that her relationship with her family was difficult and humiliating, especially with her father, played by Charlie Hunnam. She felt trapped inside her house, and the cruelty and suppression led her to her dark side.

The video also introduces Vicky Krieps as Bridget Sullivan, the Bordens’ live-in maid. Her relationship with Lizzie plays an important role in the story, as she understands what it feels like to be humiliated within an oppressive household.

The season explores the theme of power, revenge, rage, repression, and sexuality. In an interview with Tudum by Netflix, Ella Beatty spoke about the show and said, “I am so excited for viewers to experience our exploration of Lizzie Borden’s story and the questions that her life animates to this day.” She added, “It has been a dream come true to investigate this complicated person’s psychology and to examine an American crime that feels almost mythic in proportion. This season gives us our first female Monster and delves into female rage and repression which I’ve found to feel strikingly relevant. I cannot wait to share it with the world.”

Following the seasons of Jeffrey Dahmer, the Menendez brothers, and Ed Gein, the Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story will add another shocking case to the controversial anthology series. As the first female killer story of the series, the teaser trailer hints at the violent retelling of one of America’s most infamous murder cases.
