Secretary of State Marco Rubio has gushed about JD Vance, calling him his best friend in the Trump administration. He and his wife, Jeanette Dousdebes Rubio, appeared as guests on The Katie Miller podcast, where he was asked who his best friend was in the current administration.

Without a second thought, he named the vice president and explained why they were so close. Rubio also named other close colleagues with whom he works on a daily basis.

Marco Rubio Explains Why JD Vance Is His ‘Best Friend’

On Aug. 11, during an episode of The Katie Miller podcast, Marco Rubio and his wife, Jeanette Dousdebes Rubio, discussed a wide range of topics. From endless Marco Rubio memes to his life as the Secretary of State, he shared an inside look at his experiences. During the conversation, he was also asked whether he had a best friend in the current Trump administration.

He said the ‘best way’ to answer the host’s question was “I have a lot of people.” He added, “So, I’ve known JD the longest of anybody that’s on there because he was in the Senate with me, but I even knew him before he was a senator and we had interacted on some policy stuff.”

Rubio noted that there are other people in the administration as well with whom he works closely on a daily basis. He named them: Pete Hegseth, Scott Bessent, and John Ratcliffe. He called Ratcliffe extremely punctual to meetings, saying that he always shows up on time and is usually the first person to arrive.

The Secretary of State’s comments resonated with JD Vance, who had also considered Rubio as his best friend in the Trump administration. In an October 2025 episode of the Pod Force One podcast, he was asked if any tension would arise if one of them became a presidential candidate. The VP denied it, saying Rubio is his “best friend in the administration.”

He added that they work closely together, and a lot of the “good work” in the Trump administration was possible because they were able to work together. Vance said, “I never want to wake up, and so far I’ve never woken up, and thought to myself, ‘How do I make myself president of the United States?’ What I wake up and think to myself is, ‘How do I do a good job as vice president?’”

He believed that his best friend would ask himself the same question because he believed worrying too much about politics would make them worse at their jobs. “That should be the question that each of us keeps on asking ourselves,” he concluded.

‘Politics Really Does Make for Interesting Friendships’

Marco Rubio’s wholesome comments about JD Vance went viral on social media, as netizens were impressed that the two are such great friends. They praised him for the trust they share, calling it a “real asset” that can bring a change in the nation.

A user tweeted, “Trump picked wisely, and his team is meshing really well!” Another user commented, “Team chemistry is through the roof. Rubio and Vance have some great chemistry!” A third asked, “How can anyone not LOVE this guy?!”

A user praised, “Great to see strong friendships and teamwork at the top. A strong team built on trust and loyalty.” A user remarked, “Best friends today, potential primary rivals tomorrow. Politics really does make for interesting friendships.”

A user mentioned, “When people work closely together, trust and loyalty matter. Good to see the administration has strong relationships behind the scenes.” A user claimed, “It’s going to be a Vance/Rubio ticket in ’28.”
