John Hinckley Jr. Sends Message To Jodie Foster Nearly 45 Years After He Allegedly Shot Reagan For Her

The man who attempted to assassinatePresident Ronald Reagan in 1981 inan attempt to impressJodie Foster is sending a message to her more than 45 years after the shooting.

John Hinckley Jr.was found not guilty by reason of insanity in 1982 for the shooting after arguing he was mentally ill and obsessed with the movie “Taxi Driver” and Foster, a cast member whom he had stalked.

Hinckley mentioned Foster in a new interview on “The Mark Joseph Show” set to post on Wednesday, which was shared with Entertainment Weekly.

“I just wish Jodie Foster well, you know,” Hinckley said. “I don’t really see her movies, but I wish her well, and I know she’s doing quite well. And that’s all I can say is just, I wish Jodie well, and I hope she has a good life.”

Hinckley shot Reaganas well as press secretary James Brady outside a hotel in Washington, D.C., on March 30, 1981. The then-president recovered from a punctured lung, but Brady was left permanently disabled before dying of his injuries in 2014.

Since being granted unconditional release in 2022, Hinckley hasattempted to pursue a career as a songwriter, although many of his concertshave been canceled due to his notoriety.

Foster rarely speaks about Hinckley, but in June 2024 said during an interview that the aftermath of the assassination attempt was a “big moment” in her life ―especially after another man brought a gun to a play she was performing in.
