Jenna Ortega’s sister, Aliyah Ortega, reacted to a fan defending the actress from public scrutiny.
The Wednesday and Scream actress received unsolicited speculation over her appearance in recent months.
Aliyah commented on an Instagram post that slammed those criticizing the actress.
Jenna Ortega’s sister has come to the actress’ defense amid unsolicited public scrutiny over the Wednesday and Scream actress’ physical appearance.
After a fan shared to Instagram an impassioned defense of the 23-year-old actress amid criticism and speculation over her body, Aliyah Ortega replied to the post with a series of exclamation points.
The post came amid backlash to Ortega’s appearance, which many have commented on in recent months. In the post defending Ortega, the fan said that “everyone should mind their own business” and leave the actress alone.

“She doesn’t owe anyone an explanation her life is her life, and her body belongs to her. She has every right to make whatever decisions she feels are best for herself without being judged, discriminated against, or subjected to unnecessary speculation,” the fan wrote. “We don’t know what she may be going through, and we shouldn’t assume anything based on appearances or a few comments from an interview. Sometimes the most respectful thing we can do is simply give someone privacy, support them, and let them be.”
The fan added, “Please, For God’s sake, she is a human being first, before she is a celebrity in the public eye, and I think that’s what people tend to forget. She deserves privacy, peace, and the freedom to live her life without constantly being questioned or analyzed. Stop concerning yourselves with her personal life and asking intrusive, unnecessary, and random questions.”
Under the post, Aliyah replied, “!!!,” which set off another chain of comments speculating on her sister’s physical appearance.
Ortega’s comments to Esquire in a recent interview also sparked concern, as she reflected on past eating habits on set as a rising star.

“I really had it going for me as a child ‘cause I can’t think of one mistake I made,” she told the outlet. “Is that a terrible thing to say? I feel like I make mistakes now all the time, but as a child, I was so grateful and so excited to be there that my game face was on.”

She added, “I wasn’t asking for a sip of water,” and, “I would go all day without eating, drinking, whatever, because I wanted so badly to not be in the way of anybody.”
Discourse surrounding Ortega comes amid similar public chatter about pop superstar Ariana Grande, whose representative recently announced — amid intense internet debate about her body, particularly as it appears in the “Petal” music video — that the 33-year-old would take an extended break from public appearances after her current Eternal Sunshine album tour wraps in September.

Grande later paused a Chicago concert to address the controversy, and clarified the reason for her break, telling the crowd that she heard “my fans were worried that negativity was ruining things for me. But, I just have to say, that could not be more the f--- opposite,” she explained.
“Multiple things can be true at the same time. Boundaries need to be set,” Grande explained, adding that “human beings can need a break sometimes.”
