Euphoria creator Sam Levinson has revealed whether or not season 3's ending was the series finale.

"What else is there to say?" Levinson said when asked if a shocking finale death meant the series was over.

The finale killed off four major characters, including Zendaya's Rue and Martha Kelly's Laurie.

This article contains spoilers for Euphoria season 3, episode 8, "In God We Trust."

After seven years and three seasons, it appears that Euphoria has ended alongside Rue.

Though season 3 attempted to set lead actress Zendaya's character on a path toward sobriety and righteousness across its most recent installment, Sunday's episode killed off the character (alongside three others) in what creator Sam Levinson has since confirmed was actually the series finale.

"In terms of the story that we set out to tell, which is the story about addiction and its consequences, this feels like the end to me," Levinson told Popcast (watch below). "It was such a fulfilling journey in terms of this cast, the crew, what we were able to accomplish."

Levinson admitted that, "There are thousands of things that have to go right in order to make something like this," and that he's proud of the work the team accomplished in bringing season 3 to light nearly four years after the conclusion of season 2.

"It's a tragic one in the end, but also, it's the truth," Levinson added of Rue's death scene, which came halfway through the episode after her crime lord boss, Alamo (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), intentionally gave her a bottle of Percocet laced with fentanyl after he became suspicious that she was an informant for the DEA.

After the episode included a bittersweet tribute to late Euphoria star Angus Cloud, who died in 2023 from an overdose that included a mix of fentanyl, Levinson also said that "if you are experimenting or taking drugs today, it's very possible it'll kill you, and I think it was a way of honoring Angus and saying a prayer for the future."

New York Times journalist Joe Coscarelli then explicitly asked Levinson if "Euphoria ends here with Rue," to which Levinson definitively replied, "Yeah. What else is there to say?"

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to HBO representatives for comment.

Euphoria season 3 marked by far the most contentious season of the series, not only in terms of fan and critical reception (which was mostly negative), but also for its characters. In addition to Rue's shocking death, the season 3 finale also killed off the aforementioned Alamo, Martha Kelly's fan-favorite drug dealer Laurie, and NFL star Marshawn Lynch's G.

The episode came one week after the show additionally killed off Jacob Elordi's Nate, who met his end after he was buried alive in a wooden coffin, which a deadly rattlesnake found its way into and bit him on the neck.

The show also endured behind-the-scenes drama leading up to season 3, with Emmy-winning composer Labrinth publicly posting ahead of the debut that he would no longer be working on the project despite crafting the show's signature sonic components on seasons 1 and 2.

"DOUBLE F--- EUPHORIA. IM OUT. THANK YOU AND GOOD NIGHT X," he wrote online earlier this year, though the post was subsequently deleted.
