Park Geon-roung starred in the viral “Baby Shark” video at age 6, which has 17 billion views on YouTube

The now 17-year-old will release his debut single WAVE featuring Monsta X’s Joohoney next week

The Pinkfong Company reportedly plans to release a documentary about his journey titled WAVE: A Boy’s Record

The boy who performed in the video for Baby Shark is now making his K-pop debut, 10 years after appearing on screens.

Park Geon-roung was just 6 years old when he starred in the music video for the unforgettably catchy tune, which is the most-watched YouTube clip of all time with 17 billion views and counting.

The 2-minute video sees a 6-year-old Geon-roung and a girl singing and dancing along to the repetitive lyrics while they tell the story of a family of sharks — a baby, mommy, daddy, grandma and grandpa.

Now, Geon-roung, 17, is continuing his music career with The Pinkfong Company, the creators of Baby Shark, and will record songs under the name Baby Shark Boy, per Forbes.

His first single, WAVE, features K-pop star Joohoney from the boy band Monsta X, and is due to be released on Aug. 20 in Korea and Aug. 19 in the U.S., per the outlet.

Geon-roung has started a new Instagram page under the name Baby Shark Boy and posted a joint video with the official Baby Shark account.

The clip started with him dancing to the famous lyrics “Baby Shark doo-doo-doo,” before the song transitioned to WAVE‘s pop beat.

“I have always been grateful that people remember my appearances from my childhood. Ten years ago, I danced next to Baby Shark, but now I want to share stories I wrote myself and my own voice,” Geon-roung told Business Korea.

Baby Shark first hit the Billboard Hot 100 in 2019 and successfully placed at No. 32, only three slots down from Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper‘s “Shallow,” the tune from A Star Is Born.

The Pinkfong Company told The Korea Herald that Baby Shark Boy could be a one-off project and that decisions will be made after the single is released.

“This isn’t just about bringing back the boy from the video. It’s about him telling his own story, and we want to carry that new beginning forward authentically,” a company representative told the outlet.

After the single comes out, The Pinkfong Company told Forbes that it will release a behind-the-scenes documentary titled WAVE: A Boy’s Record.

It will reportedly follow the decade since the original Baby Sharkshoot and allow Geon-roung to narrate his own story.
