A source close to Jolie, 51, told Rob Shuter's Substack she's "not surprised" by Pitt's decision.

"She tried to warn people. She knew this was always a possibility,” the insider continued, adding the Maleficent actress "has long believed that sobriety did not necessarily mean the underlying problems had disappeared."

“She doesn’t believe Brad has fundamentally changed. She believes Brad is who Brad is, and no amount of sobriety or reinvention changes that,” the source added.

The Oscar winner and the F1 star dated for years before they married in 2014 and separated in 2016. They share kids Maddox, 25, Pax 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 18 — however, most of the kids have dropped "Pitt" from their hyphenated last name.

Pitt got candid with Esquire about his alcohol issues, saying: "I was sober for seven years. And then I got back off the wagon."

It was noted that binge-drinking no longer appeals to Pitt, as "he likes mornings now anyway, and you can miss a lovely morning when you drink too much the night before, and it's just not as interesting."

"Mornings are interesting, and he doesn't want any more of them to go by unseen," the profile described of the father-of-six's new point of view.

Elsewhere in the interview, Pitt divulged "family stuff" played a significant role in his failing mental health, as he felt "suicidal" at one point.

"I've never been suicidal except for one little period. And in that one little period, I just didn't see a way out," the movie producer confessed. "The pain was so oppressive that – I wasn't going to act on this – but I could feel the cold steel of the bullet in my head, and it felt like relief."

Pitt first stopped drinking in 2016 following his separation from the Girl, Interrupted star and ultimately began attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

Jolie filed for divorce from the Plan B Entertainment founder days after they allegedly got into a fight on their private plane while flying from France to California.
